I was my father’s caregiver for 15 years. He had Alzheimer’s disease. I was lost the whole time, overwhelmed, grief stricken and just trying to keep my head above water.
It was only afterward, when I began to write about what had happened, that I was able to transform my grief into new meaning and purpose. It became my single focus to make sure that no one else would have to go through what I went through.
I began to develop an entire system for other caregivers to know what to do and when to do it.
